Mungo’s Hi Fi - Scotland’s Number One Sound System »
Scotland’s number one reggae dancehall sound system and bona-fide institution, Mungos Hi Fi have been releasing hits since 2001 when their killer tracks Wickedness and Ing featuring Brother Culture first took the world by storm getting heavy plays by Jah Shaka, the late great John Peel, Mr Scruff and Iration Steppas.
Their weekly Dub’n'Grub nights and monthly residencies at Glasgow Artschool, have played host to; Jah Shaka, Sister Nancy, Ranking Joe, Tippa Irie, Top Cat, Warrior Queen and many more. In the last 8 year the trio have played over 1000 shows truly earning the title of Veteran Selectors and are fast becoming the most indemand sound system on the touring circuit. Their great strength is to faithfully draw on foundation Reggae, Dub and Dancehall music from the last 50 years and to come away with something that is genuinely fresh.
Never satisfied with club sound engineering they have built their own enormous p.a. that has blown away dubstep producers such as Skream and Digital Mystiks, with the clear mid/tops and the pure bass power. These conscious bad boys play across the board selection from ska and rocksteady, through roots and steppers, to rub a dub, digital roots and early dancehall, right up to modern dancehall, new roots and dubstep. This broad mix inspires their productions and dubplates which span these genres to break new ground on the frontiers of reggae - forward thinking every time!
Their vinyl only releases on their own Scotch Bonnet imprint sell in the thousands. With festivals booked across Europe and here in the UK (Camp Bestival, Glastonbury, Knockengorroch, Strawberry Fair) and airplay from Rob Da Bank, Anne Hobbs, Ras Kwarme, Brinsley Ford, their forth coming album, featuring an onslaught of world class MCs & singers (Ranking Joe, Top Cat, Tippa Irie, Kenny Knots and more all star) Mungos Hi Fi look set to be huge.
Rockers Revolt are delighted to have obtained the rights to Mungos next album ‘Sound System Champions’ due for release in July 2008.
