<p><strong>THE LONDON INTL SKA FESTIVAL 2012 BAND COMPETITION</strong></p>
<p>Today see&#8217;s the launch of The London Intl Ska Festival 2012 Band Competition.  We will be giving one lucky band or solo artist, from anywhere in the world the chance to perform at next years festival.  2011&#8217;s relaunch of the festival, which included Ken Boothe, Marcia Griffiths, Dave &amp; Ansell Collins, Owen Grey, Rico, The Lee Thompson Ska Orchestra, Lynval Golding (The Specials) &amp; many more was such a resounding success that we&#8217;re now making it an annual event.  A big part of the festival is to introduce new artists and we&#8217;d like the public to help us choose one act.</p>
<p><strong>How to enter</strong></p>
<p>The London Intl Ska Festival 2012 Band Competition is open to any Ska inspired band or solo artist from anywhere in the world. All you have to do to enter is email your band name to enquiries@rockersrevolt.com with a weblink to your music (myspace/facebook/youtube/soundcloud).  Please put &#8216;2012 Band Competition&#8217; in the subject line.</p>
<p>All entries must be from the band/management themselves and be submitted by 31st August 2011.  20 bands will then be shortlisted and posted online for the public to vote for their favourite.  Voting will take place between 1st September 2011 - 30th November 2011.  The band with the most votes will win.</p>
<p><strong>The Prize</strong></p>
<p>The winning prize will be an opening slot on at The London Intl Ska Festival 2012, with all travel/hotel expenses paid.  The festival takes place 3rd - 6th May 2012 across Shepards Bush Empire, Brixton Academy, &amp; Islington Academy.</p>
<p>2012&#8217;s line up promises 40 acts including Jamaican legends, an incredible 2 Tone Revue, world exclusives, plus acts from 15 countries.  First acts announced are:  Neol Davies aka The Selecter, Hotknives (original line up), Los Granadians (Spain), plus DJs Andy Smith, Count Skylarkin &amp; Mark Barrett (Pressure Drop).  More to be announced next week.</p>

We&#8217;ve had a brilliant 3 years running the label and very proud of all we achieved with the releases from Pama Intl, Slackers, Pietasters, Ed Rome, Mungos Hi Fi, Babyhead &amp; more.</p>

I&#8217;m closing Rockers Revolt because some amazing opportunities have presented themselves.  As well as running <a href="http://www.londoninternationalskafestival.co.uk">The London Intl Ska Festival</a>, I&#8217;m also going to be running a new label for the UK&#8217;s finest truly independent label Cherry Red Records called <a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Phoenix-City-Record-Co/113544735404040?sk=app_178091127385">Phoenix City</a> and also working on a new band&#8230; All this means I simply don&#8217;t have the time to do RR justice anymore.</p>

<p>Last night Craig Charles featured <a href="http://www.londoninternationalskafestival.co.uk">The London Intl Ska Festival</a> on his BBC6 Funk &amp; Soul music show. The show included interviews with the legendary Marcia Griffiths and festival organiser Sean Flowerdew, 5 tracks from artists performing at the fest: Bob &amp; Marcia/Marcia Griffiths, Ken Boothe and a new track from the forthcoming  <a href="http://www.rockersrevolt.com/products-page/genre/maroon-town---urban-myths-cd/">Maroon Town album</a>. Plus songs from Millie Small, Janet Kay and <a href="http://www.pamainternational.co.uk">Pama Intl</a>.</p>

<p><span style="font-family: arial;">Boss Sounds is back again from October 16th - 17th at the Cluny in Newcastle. Pama International will play one of their final concerts and will be mixed live by the Mad Professor! </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: arial;">Pama International will be joined by Dave &#8220;Double Barrel&#8221; Barker on a superb Saturday night bill. Ska&#8217;d for Life will be guest DJs ensuring a night of ska, reggae and dub. Pama Intl/Mad Professor will be promoting their new dub album, a reworking of PI&#8217;s critically acclaimed Outernational album (**** Mojo, &#8220;an album of substance&#8221; Q, &#8220;seamless merging of old &amp; new&#8221; Echoes), titled &#8220;Rewired! In Dub&#8221;. Dave Barker is famous as part of Jamaican duo, Dave and Ansell Collins who hit the top of the UK and US charts in 1971 with &#8220;Double Barrel&#8221; and followed it up with &#8220;Monkey Spanner&#8221;. A superb singer Dave was one of the stars of the Boss Sounds Festival in 2007 when he stole the show and joined Prince Buster on stage for a fantastic finale.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: arial;">The legendary after show party will again be held at &#8220;World Headquarters&#8221; and will feature, &#8220;Ska&#8217;d for Life&#8221; DJs and the Pangaea Sound System.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: arial;">Sunday is roots night with, direct from Jamaica, the Mighty Diamonds. One of the most famous vocal groups of the &#8217;70s and &#8217;80s the Diamonds consist of Donald &#8220;Tabby&#8221; Shaw (lead vocals) with Fitzroy &#8220;Bunny&#8221; Simpson and Lloyd &#8220;Judge&#8221; Ferguson providing harmonies and occaisional lead. Backed up by Sly and Robbie and drum and bass Diamond mania erupted across Jamaica and the across Europe when they signed for Virgin Records in the late &#8217;70s. Timeless classics like, &#8220;Right Time&#8221; and &#8220;I Need A Roof&#8221; formed the sound track to the era. There biggest hit was the original version of, &#8220;Pass The Dutchie&#8221; made famous by Musical Youth, originally entitled, &#8220;Pass the Kouchie&#8221;. The Diamonds will be joined by the north east greatest rootsy party band, Diddley Squat, legends of the Green Festival a mighty ten piece joyous combo.</span></p>
